Tutorial: Make a Hankie Gift Pouch / Card Holder

Making an envelope out of a hankie is quick and easy and doesn't require any sewing.
You'll need a hankie and a decorative pin.

Lay your hankie out flat
Then fold it in half
and in half again
Your hankie should now be folded in quarters.
Turn it so the open edges are at the top.
There will be four layers.
Take the top 3 layers and fold them down as shown below.
Iron your hankie to press to folds in place.

Leaving the back layer in place,
take the next two layers and tuck them under the front layer.
Pull the front layer back up to cover the two layers you tucked under it.
You have now formed a pocket.
Take your decorative pin and pin thru everything except the single back layer.
This will keep your pouch from coming apart.
These are so cute and really make a unique holder for a small gift or a card!
I added a vintage Christmas card to mine,
These make a lovely gift with a a sachet, a pair of vintage gloves
or any other small item tucked inside.
The best part is that all you have to do is take out the pin and unfold the hankie...
and you have a vintage hankie to use and a pin to wear!

Merry Christmas everyone!
I'm sure you can find many ways to use these fun hankie pouches.

White Christmas Shadow Box Wall Art

I've started making these lovely shadow boxes for my shop.
They are quite a bit of work as I have to make the box first but they really are worth the extra effort.

I love the little feather tree in this one!

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday!!

Living Farmhouse Style in Surburbia

I live in a small 1960s ranch style tract house with a large yard. I love the idea of country living but not the inconvenience of traveling long distances to shopping, the doctor's office, etc. I tried that and really didn't like driving in the snow to get to town, having the deer eat all the vegetables or not having water when the electricity went out and the electric well pump couldn't run. So I've tried to take all the parts of the country life that I like and incorporate them into my suburban existence.

To me farmhouse living means simplicity, connecting to the earth and doing what you can with your own two hands.

I'm not living in rural America but that's okay, I'm pretty happy with our own personal blend of suburbia and country!

Decorating with vintage stamped linens.

Vintage linens with lovely stamped designs are often found at rummage sales and thrift stores.
The designs were meant to be hand embroidered by an industrious house wife.
I know I'll never embroider them but that didn't stop me from buying them and stashing them away!

So rather than keep them in a drawer I decided to use them just the way they are.
These linens go particularly well with farmhouse and prairie decor adding a rustic charm to your table. Remember that the designs were meant to be removed once the embroidery was complete
so I don't recommend washing them.
 Use them alone . . .
Or layer them with other linens.
I especially the rich color of this golden brown one.
